“Time to decide”

By Rev. Jean Eddy Jacob

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matt. 11: 28-30

If we correctly follow the Gospel account, we will see that from this point on in our Christian’s life, the Lord’s message was concentrated not on performing miracles as many of us wish to see but in teaching the truth that people need to know to serve better. Christ ‘s teaching is about the Father, Himself, the way of life and the way of salvation that people should know in order to live a Christian life. While this year is over and a new one is about to start; people need to make a decision whether they would continue as disciples of the Pharisees or whether they would submit to Jesus and become his disciples. With that said; we must know that it is possible for someone to be saved without being a disciple. However, no one would be able to be saved without Christ. Therefore, changing a church would not make much difference, but having Jesus is everything and what we need is Jesus and Jesus only. A believer becomes a disciple of Jesus Christ only when he or she submits to the authority of Christ’s Words and acknowledges Christ to rule over his or her life.

Many of us have no right to call ourselves disciples of Christ by the simple fact that we have not yet come to acknowledge Him in our life. I would like to tell you that it is “Time to decide”. The last time we have heard Christ’s Words, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest,” we have responded and have come to him; However, when He prepares to slip a yoke around our necks to join us to him, we resist, we fight, and we run away and back off. We refuse to be brought under bondage to anyone not even to Jesus who calls us. Once again it is “time to decide” because we cannot do it without Him. Until we become yoked to Jesus in his unconditional love, we cannot be his disciples. “Take my yoke upon you”, means to submit to His Words, and accept Him in our life. When we do that and only when we decide to do it; will we find rest for our souls. The world will not get any better but we can get better by the sufficient grace of Jesus-Christ.

Therefore, it is “time to decide”. The tragedy is that some of us have been in church for many years but yet have never been in Christ. It is important to know that the worse news are not the earthquakes, the school shootings, the terrorist attacks or the world wars but rather those of us that have not yet taken the time to decide who we will rather serve and who are heading to Hell without Christ. 2013 is over and 2014 is coming, will the New Year bring change for us? No!!!!!   The government cannot bring it and the New Year will not bring it either. I know someone; his name is Jesus. He is able to change winter into summer when we decide to accept him. In the name of Jesus, if you are restless, perhaps at the edge of despair, discouraged and lonely. If you are single or in a broken relationship, if you are spiritually down and confused put your shoulder into Jesus’ yoke so the He might bear your burden. Happy New Year! May God be with you all!
